Gordon Brush Showcases Bold New Corporate Logo

Date: 2016-02-01

City of Industry, CA - Last week, Gordon Brush announced the move of their corporate offices and manufacturing facility from Commerce to the City of Industry, CA. Gordon Brush team members orchestrated the complex move while maintaining virtually flawless service to their customers. Movers and riggers packed up and drove multimillions of dollars worth of equipment, inventory and high-tech robotics across town. Software engineers, machinists and half a dozen technicians from Germany and Italy installed and fine-tuned their thoroughbred machinery.
To properly represent Gordon Brush's vast new 183,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, the company needed a new image to match; a new logo that would illustrate the fortitude and growth of the corporation.
"I feel so grateful. I wanted a logo that reflects that," says Ken Rakusin, President and CEO of Gordon Brush. "Business at Gordon Brush has never been better. I feel so fortunate to be able to provide even better service for our valued customers and a better work environment for our hard working, devoted, and caring team members who and have been an integral part of our success."
Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Alan M. Schechter, worked with a major design studio to create a new face for the company; a bold, strong logo that exemplifies Gordon Brush's expansion and strength. "The new logo reflects our bold new image and emphasizes our 'proud to be American' manufacturing philosophy - even the new colors are the same as those in the American flag. The powerful 'G' symbolizes the 15,000 different types of brushes we make. It says 'we are strong and proud,'" says Schechter.
"Coming to work in the morning at this new amazing place is like being a kid and getting your first shiny new bike. It just makes you so happy. Everyone is feeling it. All of us on the manufacturing and engineering side really love the new logo too. It really demonstrates what we are all feeling," notes Ricardo Ruiz, Plant Manager.
Adds Christina Lynch, Operations Manager, "It took a lot of complex logistics to get us to this point; a lot of hard work. But it was so worth it. Our new offices are amazing. We love coming to work. We are all joking around that we don't need a gym membership. All we have to do is walk to the other side of the building! We love the new logo, it just seems to fit."
"We have a very aggressive 5-year growth plan and with our existing team and the incoming new hires, we are very confident that we will surpass our own expectations," continues President Rakusin. "During the move, our entire staff went the extra mile not only for the company, but especially for our customers. I am very proud of everyone at Gordon Brush and feel blessed. We are a bigger, stronger Company with even better customer service. Our new logo showcases this new chapter in our company history."

Ruiz Rises at Gordon Brush

Date: 2014-04-11

Ricardo Ruiz has come a long way since enduring economic hardship and political unrest while growing up in his native El Salvador. Ruiz, 52, is now plant manager for Gordon Brush in Commerce, Calif.

"I was studying industrial engineering at the university and I was afraid that the political turmoil would make for an uncertain future, so I decided to seek better opportunities," Mr. Ruiz says.

He left El Salvador at the age of 21 with a friend who had family in Canada. They were caught at the California border and sent to a detention facility in Chula Vista.

Mr. Ruiz spent three days in detention before an aunt living in Montebello bailed him out. Upon his release, he was given a work permit.

His aunt's husband encouraged him to apply for a job at Gordon Brush Mfg. Co. Inc., where he worked. Mr. Ruiz got hired as a janitor because he spoke no English at the time and his education wasn't relevant to an open position at Gordon Brush.

He spent two years learning how to work and fix the machines on his own time.

"I wanted to better myself," he says. "I knew I had the capability of learning and improving my position, and if I worked hard, someone would recognize my abilities."

Second-shift supervisor to plant manager

After two years, the company offered Mr. Ruiz the chance to learn how to make brushes on the second shift. It was a welcome step up, but he wanted more responsibility and better, higher-paying jobs.

In recognition of his hard work, the company sponsored his U.S. citizenship, and a couple of years later he was made second-shift supervisor and was taught the art of brush making, and how to use and fix all of the machines.

Although Mr. Ruiz was studying architecture and accounting in community college, his immediate need was to support his wife and child.

"Should I continue my education and pursue a career as an architect or should I stay at Gordon Brush?" he asked his wife. The answer was clear when he was offered the position of plant manager.

Mr. Ruiz passed on the chance of a potentially more lucrative career as an architect to stay on at Gordon Brush because, he says, "I enjoy working with my hands, solving problems and providing customers a solution."

He now coordiantes the production of over 15,000 different brushes made by Gordon Brush.

"I have complete faith and trust in Ricardo to do whatever he needs to do to run the plant in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, to make and deliver our wide variety of American made brushes to our customers," says Ken Rakusin, company president and CEO.

Giving back

Mr. Ruiz remembers to give back to the country and community from which he received. He is active in his church and community center, and counsels young people on what it means to work hard to achieve a goal.

"Besides my family and my job, this is my third greatest satisfaction," he says, "giving back to the community and hopefully make a difference in a youth's life."

He has no regrets about how his life and career have gone.

"Because of Gordon Brush, I was able to build a great life for my wife and me and our two daughters."

Gordon Brush is family, not just a job, he says, "and only in the United States of America could all this happen."

Proud To Be An American Manufacturer

Date: 2013-09-04

Gordon's Milwaukee Dustless brush line of janitorial cleaning tools and its health and wellness product, the FootMate® System, face the most intense pressure from lower priced Chinese made products, in many distribution channels.  Many end users are willing to sacrifice cost over quality, even though in the long run it ends up costing them more because they have to replace sub-standard product more frequently.  Moreover, these lower quality products do not do the job for which they were intended, thus leaving a substandard work-product.

Even under these competitive threats, "the Company has been steadfast in its philosophy and commitment to manufacturing in the United States", said Ken Rakusin, president and CEO.  "Manufacturing in California and Wisconsin is still a viable model, even if it brings with it some tough challenges.  Gordon Brush prides itself on its American heritage dating back to 1897, when the first dustless brush was invented in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by the Milwaukee Dustless Brush Company, which was acquired in 2005", further added Rakusin.

"Companies that have nothing to differentiate themselves on besides price are the most vulnerable to the threat of lower priced Chinese made products; that's a no-win game.  Gordon Brush chooses to compete on value-added, said Rakusin.  Offering premier products with superior customer service have enabled the Company to grow and prosper in spite of the Chinese threat.  "The Milwaukee Dustless motto: Innovative Products that Clean Better and Last Longer is a testament to this philosophy, said Rakusin.

In addition to the Gordon and Milwaukee Dustless line of brushes, the Company's recently introduced the FootMate® System.  The Podiatrist recommended FootMate® System makes optimal foot health easy.  It is a complete foot care system for cleaning, soothing, stimulating, and massaging your feet every time you shower.

The FootMate® System is a brush and specially formulated gel that goes in the bath or shower to clean and massage your feet without having to bend over.  The FootMate® System stands head-and-shoulders (or perhaps foot-and-heels) above the Chinese competitor.  The FootMate® brush has over 11,000 bristles and weighs over three pounds compared to the 1,000 bristle, few ounces weighing Chinese competitor.  "The FootMate System is a high quality American made product that will last and not crumble, exclaimed, Rakusin.

Gordon Brush never considered off-shore manufacturing to become more price competitive.  Our American made products give us the ability to display our patriotism and pride and to create feelings of goodwill when our customers receive American-made items.

When considering off-shore manufacturing, the allure of international low-cost labor has to be balanced with loss of control, local customs challenges and costs.  "Product reliability, and safety and compliance measures, less inventory/stock issues, and difficulties bringing a distinct company culture across the world, was all contributing factors against going off-shore", according to Rakusin.  In addition, the cost of shipping and the ability to offer same day shipping on most standard brushes was also a major factor in keeping business here in the United States", said Rakusin.

"In spite of all of these issues, I was determined to build and grow my business in the United States by re-investing profits into the purchase of millions of dollars in manufacturing equipment and machinery; pride in contributing to the American economy is near-and-dear to my heart", further proclaimed Rakusin.  "Moreover and perhaps most importantly, added Rakusin, are my valued, long-tenured, skilled employees. I have well over 100 employees, plus their families, for who I am responsible.  I tell them that Gordon Brush is a great place to work and we are committed to enhancing their lives.   Brush-making is an art; I would not have a business without these skilled artisans.  I would be a hypocrite if I ignored that commitment for the purpose of improving my bottom line."

"There are tremendous problems all over the world, said Rakusin and the United States leads the world in providing support for the destitute.  There are people in America who are hungry or out of work or can't afford health insurance.  My priority is to want to help them first by supporting the local community.  That means keeping my business here."
In 2003, nearly 15 million Americans were employed in manufacturing jobs, but that number had dipped below 12 million by 2013.  A2011 study by the Boston Consulting Group that predicts that by 2015, the United States will "experience a manufacturing renaissance as the wage gap with China shrinks.  If the Chinese wage trend continues, 1 million manufacturing jobs could return to the United States by 2015, the study said.  Over the next five or 10 years, international trade will swing from continent to continent.  As labor costs in China rise, manufacturing will move to Thailand, Vietnam or India.  This will present a new set of problems.

BUY AMERICAN Getting to the bottom of foot care Exclusive: Roger Simmermaker recommendation cites health value

Date: 2013-11-07

But what I wondered recently was this: what can the average American do to take better care of their feet so that they can avoid things like injury, poor circulation, and the like?
Fortunately, I recently discovered an American-made product called the FootMate System, which goes a long way in addressing the concerns and questions I had, as well as others I didn’t even think about. The Footmate System is made by American-owned Gordon Brush, which has been around since 1951, and you can find out about this great American product at www.footmate.com.

How do I know it’s such a great product, you ask? Because I’ve ordered one for myself and I’m definitely happy that I did, because I know that my feet will be thanking me for many years to come.

The Footmate System consists of expertly contoured brush bristles that stimulate, massage, clean, and condition your feet from a standing position. That means no more awkward or unsafe stooping or bending over in the shower to reach your feet with your hands. I’ve often thought of how risky it really is to have to stand on one leg in the shower so I can wash the other foot. Just one slip or slight mistake could result in a serious injury.

Plus, my feet now get the added benefit of a better cleaning and massage at the same time.
And who knows better than an American company like Gordon Brush how to craft just the right bristles for each and every part of your foot – even between the toes? After all, Gordon Brush has been making all kinds of brushes in America for well over 60 years. The FootMate’s softer inner bristles gently massage the tender soles of your feet, while the stiffer outer brushes soothe rough skin, resulting in the perfect way to pamper your tired or aching feet.

In its state-of-the-art, 51,600-square-foot facility in southern California, Gordon Brush manufactures over 15,000 brushes in various sizes, shapes, and materials for mostly commercial and industrial customers including the military, as well as medical, electronics, and aerospace industries. In short, if a brush exists, they have it. If it doesn’t, then they’ll make it.

The Footmate System is well worth the $49.95 price. You can get the Footmate System for as little as only $39.95 if you opt not to get the accompanying Rejuvenating Gel, but I would suggest getting the complete system.

And I’m certainly not the only one who recommends the Footmate System. On the website, you’ll see support from a host of other “Buy American” advocates and partners, as well as Olympic Gold medalist Dawn Harper, who advocated the Footmate System during an interview with the American Diabetes Association.

It is crucial to understand the connection between diabetes and foot care. Poor foot care with diabetes can lead to serious health problems, including possible amputation of the foot or leg. Regular use of The FootMate System can help stimulate blood flow to the feet and aid in keeping circulation problems to a minimum. The massage stimulates circulation and blood flow to the feet and produces a feeling of all-over well-being and health which is important, regardless if you’re a diabetic patient or not.

It’s completely comforting and refreshing to know that I am now taking proper care of my feet now as well as doing what I can to avoid any potential problems in the future. I would recommend that all fellow “Buy American” advocates do the same by getting their own American-made FootMate System. Like me, I’m sure you’ll be glad you did
